In 2018, the United Nations launched its first-ever flagship report on disability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), titled “Realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals by, for and with Persons with Disabilities.” This groundbreaking report highlighted a vital truth that persons with disabilities remain at a disadvantage across most global development goals.

With over one billion people worldwide, approximately 15% of the global population, living with some form of disability, urgent and concrete action is needed to ensure inclusion, accessibility, and equal participation in all aspects of society.
Promoting Disability Inclusion Through Community Action
In alignment with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, PLEO REACHOUT ORGANISATION CIC was established in the United Kingdom to support and empower ethnic minority people living with disabilities in Milton Keynes and beyond.
Through its flagship initiative, ABILITY MATTERS UK, PLEO Reachout is committed to promoting awareness, providing essential information, and creating inclusive opportunities that enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
The organisation works in solidarity with the global SDG pledge to “leave no one behind”, ensuring that people with disabilities are recognised as both agents and beneficiaries of development.
Connecting the SDGs to Disability Inclusion
The mission of PLEO REACHOUT ORGANISATION and ABILITY MATTERS UK directly aligns with several key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including:
SDG 1: No Poverty
People with disabilities are disproportionately affected by poverty due to social exclusion and limited access to employment. By providing training, advocacy, and community support, PLEO helps break this cycle and promotes financial independence.
SDG 3.4: Health and Well-being
Target 3.4 focuses on promoting mental health and well-being. PLEO’s inclusive programmes address the physical, mental, and emotional needs of people living with disabilities, fostering wellness and resilience through peer support and awareness campaigns.
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
By supporting access to employment opportunities, entrepreneurship, and skills development, PLEO contributes to inclusive economic growth. Empowering people with disabilities to gain meaningful employment not only improves livelihoods but also strengthens community development.
SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
Reducing inequality is central to PLEO’s mission. The organisation advocates for fair policies and equal access to education, healthcare, and employment, ensuring that disability inclusion becomes a core part of local and national development strategies.
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Collaboration is key. PLEO works with local councils, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and disability advocates to drive systemic change. These partnerships ensure a unified approach to building a more inclusive and accessible world.
A Call to Action
As the world continues its journey toward achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, persons with disabilities must be included at every stage from policy design to community implementation.
PLEO REACHOUT ORGANISATION CIC and ABILITY MATTERS UK stand at the forefront of this mission, working tirelessly to create a society where everyone, regardless of ability, can live with dignity, opportunity, and equality.
Together, we can make inclusion not just an aspiration, but a reality.
